You found the most beautiful crochet pattern! You have the time, the hook, and the skills to make it… but… you don’t have the brand of yarn that the pattern calls for. So how do you find yarn substitutes when the yarn store is closed, or it’s been picked over like all the toilet paper and hand sanitizer? Don’t get me started on the toilet paper…
Or maybe you’re like me. You live in Canada and don’t have access to all of the amazing yarns found at stores like Joanne’s.
Don’t worry, because I have found an amazing tool to help you find just the right yarn substitute for that pattern. This tool will help you to find the perfect yarn substitutes.

When I stumbled across this database, I was soo excited! I immediately started searching up my favourite yarn brands and found so many new and awesome yarn substitutes that I have yet to try.
I know you’re dying to find out what it is…
It’s called YarnSub.
YarnSub is a website with a huge database of yarn. This database allows you to search by brand, yarn weight, gauge, price, texture, and more.
Simply enter the type of yarn you need into the search, and a big list of comparable yarn pops up!
Not only that, but it will tell you how it compares to that yarn, in terms of texture, gauge, fiber content, and in some cases it will link to where you can purchase it online!
This has been such a game changer for me!
The search also allows you to add filters. You can enter in a price point, or fiber content so that you get the type of results you are looking for.
Don’t just take my word for it, go check it out yourself!
I hope this helps you in your search for the perfect yarn for your next project!
Happy Crocheting!
