Ever have one of those days where nothing seems to go right? I just had one of those days.
It started off okay; the kids even let us sleep in a little bit. But shortly after breakfast, everything just seemed to unravel. The hubby and I were both on edge, and getting on each other’s nerves. The kids were whining and fighting. The dog was chewing the kids toys. The only one who was happy was little Mr. N, who was completely oblivious to the chaos around him.
We planned on going for a run this morning, so we set out with the kids bikes in tow. We made it through our run without any tears which was amazing!!! Until we got home and I dropped my phone face down on the concrete. I picked it up to see the screen completely smashed. Just what I needed. 🙁
But Praise the Lord for warranty! I was able to get it fixed at a fraction of the cost. However, it threw a huge wrench in our plans for the day.
I wish I could say that the day got better after that, but it really didn’t. I won’t bore you with all the details, but lets just say there were many more tears.
So here I sit, after the kids are finally in bed, and I’m trying to figure out what I could have done to make the day go smoother. I’m not sure that there’s anything I could have done.
So instead, here’s some ideas to help you reset after a bad day.
How to Reset After a Bad Day
Write it out.
Grab your journal (or any old piece of paper) and write. Write about what happened. Write about how you’re feeling. Get angry at the page if you have to. Just sitting here now writing about my day has helped me to de-stress and I’m able to gain some perspective.
Take a bath
Or a shower. There’s just something about the feeling of water washing over you that cleans away the dirt from the day… physically, emotionally, mentally. You will feel better after a good soak. Add some epsom salts to help draw out all those toxins. 😉
Watch a funny movie.
Get those endorphins going with a good laugh.
Speaking of endorphins, Exercise!
A good workout can do wonders for your mental well-being.
Bask in the sun.
Feel the warm rays of the sun on your skin and let it soak in… don’t forget the sunscreen though! Although, if you’re like me and live where it’s winter for 9 months of the year, then this might not always work. But try to at least get outside. The fresh air will do you good.
Play a board game.
Tonight Miss A and I played a game, and we laughed and talked. It was therapeutic to connect with her and have a little fun.
Eat a Snack and Drink a glass of water.
Sometimes a bad mood can be a direct result of hunger… I know I get super hangry when I don’t eat.
Crank the tunes and dance!
Breathe.
Practice some breathing exercises to get the oxygen flowing. Breath in through your nose for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds. Breath out through your mouth.
Colour!

Pray.
Take some time alone with God and tell him about your day. He already knows it all, but He loves to have that relationship with you. He will give you the strength to get through whatever it is you are going through.
I hope you found some strategies that will help you get through a rough day. Just know that you are not alone because we all have frustrating days from time to time.
