Check out this post for an easy Crochet Flower Pattern to add to your hat!
I hope you enjoyed making this hat as much as I did! If you have any questions about this pattern, please comment below.
I was looking for a very simple pattern for a boys hat and I found you !!! This is a great pattern and it was easy to follow. Thank you for doing such a great job in writing this out.
Thank you! I’m glad you like the pattern 😊
Hiya. Does this hat have a seam at the back?
Yes it does, but you can easily modify it to not have a seam by continuing to work in the round and not slip stitching to join at the end of each round. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round to mark your place.
Hope that makes sense.
I have a 12 year old son who could use a good beanie to play soccer in when it’s cold out. He has a huge head though, so I’d need to make an adult sized beanie. How would you alter the pattern to make one adult sized?
Hi Kerishele,
Sorry it took so long to respond to your question. To make an adult size beanie you would add 1 or 2 more rows of increases from the age 6-10 pattern. So in round 9 you would dc 14, then 2dc in next st, repeating around. Round 10, dc 16, then 2dc in next st, repeating around. Then continue on with the pattern from round 10 as it’s written. I hope that makes sense. I haven’t actually tested this, so I can’t guarantee it would fit properly, but it should work.
Hi! Can this hat be made for a Bitty Baby doll?
Yes! I would just do the increase rounds until it fits the crown of the dolls head, and then continue with dc around to finish the hat.
Just start with the pattern for newborn size, and my guess is you would stop increasing after 2 or 3 rounds depending how big the doll is. Hope this helps 😊
Yes, you would just follow the pattern until the circle fits the crown of the babies head, and then stop increasing. Then you would just continue with dc in each st around until the hat comes down to where you want it on the babies head. Hope this helps.
I am crocheting the hat in size 6-10 year.. The last row shown for the size 6-10 pattern is row 13 with 54 DC. The patterns for the other sizes end with a row of SC. Should there be a row of SC for size 6-10 to complete the hat?
Yes there should be
I am having trouble understanding the pattern..After you chain 2 you put a dc in the same space. After that you start the repeat pattern? Or does the dc in the ch 2 space count? Row 2 came out the right stitches but when I started row 3 i cannot get the right number of stitches.
The DC in the ch space is the first stitch. Then you start repeating what is written between the ** you do not count the ch 2 as a stitch, but you do count every stitch after that.
Thank you! I am on rd 3 on the hat for 6 to 10. It says 40 st. But I cannot get it to come out right. So the first dc in the ch 2 spot is considered the first st in the 4 dc pattern. I always end up with 38 sts. My last repeat pattern doesn’t finish. Just don’t know what I am doing wrong. Thank you for any help. Making these for charity.
You are right, it is supposed to be 38 and then each subsequent round is 2 stitches less. I’m not sure why the count was wrong 🤔. I will update the pattern. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
That’s so lovely that you are making hats for charity 😊
Appreciate you answering so quickly .😐 Thank you for the pattern. Love that I can make sizes for all ages of kids! Thanks again!!
You’re very welcome 😊
I’m a new to crochet. Has this pattern been updated yet? I need to see it in writing if possible. So row 3 should be 38 stitches? and row 4, 36 stitches, etc? I’m making 3-5 years size, but I have 3 more to make in other sizes. Do the other sizes need to be updated also? I have started over so many times and I’m about to give up and find yet another pattern. At first I was not counting the first dc in the same st as ch2,then I started counting it but still have too many stitches at the end of the row. I don’t know how many I’m supposed to have. I’m not experienced enough to adjust it myself. Sorry. Thanks for the help! I
This pattern has been tech edited and tested. The counts should all be accurate. If you need help with figuring out the counts feel free to email me amy@anothermumfightsthedust.com and I can help you figure out what you’re having trouble with.
I’m not getting the right amount of stitches starting around round 6, what could I be doing wrong? Also I don’t understand what it means by double crochet into a chain space, I’ve been guessing. Please help!
Hi Hannah, what size are you making?
The first dc is worked into the same stitch as the ch2 at the beginning. I think that’s what you meant by dc into the ch space.
The ch doesn’t count as a stitch. What is your count at the end of round 5?
Thanks for responding Amy! I think I got the ch2 step figured out. I ended up starting over because I realized I didn’t do enough stitches from the get go, I was counting the first stitch made in each round and I think that’s where I went wrong. Thank you for this pattern, I’m a newbie and am trying to make hats for my two kiddos! 🙂
Thank you for the pattern, however, I have 2 questions please. 1. After rnd 1 you do not say slst to join. Is this correct?
2. When creating the magic circle stitches- does the ch2 count as a stitch? ( do you want 12 “true” dc or 11dc + the chain? ) I hope you respond and thank you again =)
Hi Sara,
You do sl st to join after rnd 1 and in every round.
The ch2 does not count as a st so you will dc 12.
Hope this helps 😊
Ty! for answering so fast. Yeah.. I looked back at the pattern for the smaller hats and saw that it was written to slst but it was inadvertently left out in the pattern for ages 6-10 . And yes it helps , it makes all the difference because I keep falling short lol. Happy Holidays to you.
Hello, I am doing the pattern for 3-5 years and I am stuck on row 4. From row 3 it says you have 32 sts which I have, but when I start row 4, unless i count the first dc as the beginning of the count 4 pattern, I can never end on the DC in last 2 sts, and then it is only 38 not 39 sts.
Hi Sara, are you beginning in the same stitch as the ch2? I would love to help you more, but it’s difficult for me to know why your count is off without seeing what you are doing. You are welcome to send me pics to amy@anothermumfightsthedust.com and I can try to guide you in the right direction.
hola Amy, gracias por este espacio.
me gustaria hacerle gorros de todos colores a mi nieta, para el invierno.
Hi! I was wondering what the back of the hat should look like? My seam in the back isn’t straight and it curves. I am wondering how it is supposed to look. Very cute hat!
Hi Amie,
The seam should be straight at the back. In order to get a straight seam begin each round with your first DC in the same st as the ch2. Your seam should come out straight if you do it this way. The ch2 does not count as a st.
Hope this helps ?
Thank you. The seam is coming out straight this time! ?
Glad to hear that helped!
Amy,
I am in love with this hat pattern!! I am following you and so excited to have found you! Thanks for Sharing
Barb
Thank you Barb! ?
